RHINELANDER - Educators are learning about a new program this week at the Northwoods Community Secondary School in Rhinelander.

About 80 teachers from around the state are participating in an important workshop.

They're learning new skills on how to create programs that engage their students. Val Maxon, Administrative Assistant, says, "It gave me some ideas to take home to my kids. And making a difference, I'll take it home and give it to my kids and we'll go from there."

It's called project based learning.

The technique is designed to give educators hands-on experience they can take back to the classroom.

Dr. Janet Bontz, Charter School Administrator, says, "I'm really proud of the teachers and grateful for the experience to share this so we can make a difference for kids throughout the state."

Some of the projects taught this week were about developing programs about history and geography.

Organizers from NCSS say they're working with other Charter Schools in the state to form a larger network of project based schools.
