TAGOS 12 Steps to Doing a Project

PRE-PROPOSAL WORK

1.  Select Idea/Topic to Explore!
*Get a Binder from Your Advisor or Available Staff Member
*Get Project Checklist for Binder* and Project Proposal Guide*

2.  Purpose Statement Typed on Word (50 - 100 Words) and Submitted to Advisor
*Why do you want to explore the topic/idea?

Example:  I am interested in learning more about World War II and the effect it had on the people of Rock County.  My goal is to earn 1/2 a credit in social studies (50 hours) and 1/4 of a credit in english (25 hours).  To accomplish my goal I plan on locating and interviewing World War II veterans from our county and local historians.  I will also use Internet databases to find articles that will provide me with information.  I am not certain what my final product will be; however, I would like to make a video to showcase what I learned.

3.  Preliminary Research/Investigate Topic (5 - 10 Hours)
*Is there enough quality information to form a 50+ hour project?
*Complete Pre-Project Time Logs* on paper until after project is accepted!

4.  Set up a Project Proposal Meeting with your Advisor and Team.

*This is to be done after you have completed and collected 5 - 10 hours of preliminary research!
*Turn in Project Proposal Guide* to Advisor at this time!
*Are you ready to propose your project?  Click Here for sheet to help you find out!
*Bring Binder when setting up meeting so Advisor can assure you are prepared for meeting.
*After you have setup meeting take time to do more research or work on other accepted projects.

What should binder include at this point:

  • Project Checklist
  • Project Proposal Guide
  • Purpose Statement - Typed
  • Pre-Project Time Logs
  • Preliminary Notes (NoodleTools?)

5.  Proposal Meeting with Advisor and Subject Area Advisor.
*Accepted -- Add to Project Foundry (submit Pre-Project Time Logs*)
*Not Accepted -- Fix Flaws or Move on to New Topic

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

6.  Research Using Acceptable Research Tools, Identifying Sources of Information!
*Please have accurate time logs with worthwhile statements of time used.
*APA (or alternate form) Format for Essays and Works Cited

7.  Produce Final Products!
*Reference Project Ideas and Products Web Page for Ideas!

PRESENTATION AND EVALUATION

8.   Set up Pre-Presention Meeting with Your Advisor!
*Is the project ready to present to public?
*Did you meet all of the standards/benchmarks you set out to meet?
*Request time for presentation with Advisor and Team.

9.   Presentation

10. Reflection Completed (50-100 Words) for Final Meeting with Advisor

Example:  I am happy with the work I completed by studying Rock County and World War II.  I thought I did a nice job collecting information from my interviews and research databases.  John Doe told me about how his job at General Motors changed during the war.  I never knew how much of an impact General Motors had on our city and country besided building cars.  I will definately do more live interviews in the future.  Though I am not a great presenter I thought I did a better job than I did on my last presentation.  I stood still and tried not to be nervous; however, I didn't do a good job looking at my audience.  In the future, I would like to learn more about the history of factory work in America and the History of Preventing Sexual Harrassment at the General Motors Plant in Janesville, Wisconsin.
