Established in 2010 by Mary Anderson as a memorial to her husband Lavern to provide for post high school educational opportunities for young people from Janesville, WI, who will be attending an accredited college, university, or technical school. Lavern was the librarian at Lincoln Elementary School. He retired in 2006. Eligibility guidelines include: must have attended Lincoln Elementary School; intending to study agriculture, education, or healthcare; top 50% of class ranking. Preference may be given for financial need, but is not a requirement.

Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from a Janesville High School who will be attending an accredited technical school. Student must have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Preference may be given for financial need, but is not a restriction. Letter of recommendation from is teacher is required.

Established to provide post high school educational opportunities for graduating seniors in Janesville, WI who will be attending an accredited college, university or technical school. Student should be in the top 50% of class rank. Student should demonstrate financial need.

The JMTS was established to provide post high school educational opportunities for multicultural individuals who intend to become teachers in the School District of Janesville. The JMTS provides scholarships and mentorship as recipients earn a K4-12 teaching certification.

This scholarship is for current high school students, current employees of the School District of Janesville who aspire to earn their teaching certification, and/or community members who want to become teachers and mentors for the next generation!

Applicants must be identified as African American, Asian, Latino or Native American on school registration forms. Applicants must pursue a career in the field of education, submit two letters of recommendation from adults (non-relatives), and sign an agreement stating they agree to apply for employment within the School District of Janesville after graduation. If offered a position, applicants must complete three years of successful employment with SDJ.

Janesville Multicultural Teacher Scholarship (Information & Application)

Was established to provide awards for Janesville graduates to attain post high school education. Preference may be given for academic excellence and/or financial need. Student must prepare an essay in response to the following two questions: "What is your definition of community service? Give one example of what you've done to enhance the lives of individuals and/or the community at large?

Established by a long time Janesville educator for a Janesville graduating senior intending to pursue a career in education. Top 20% of class ranking and financial need.

Was established to provide for post high school educational opportunities for young people from northern Rock County, WI. Recommendations will be based on academic excellence, commitment to field of study, and financial need; consideration may be given to DAR members.

Established to benefit students from North Rock County, WI, including the School for the Visually Handicapped, intending to go into the field of education who will be attending an accredited college or university.

Established to provide post high school educational opportunities for young people from Milton and Janesville, WI. Eligibility guidelines include: student should be in the 10-20% of class ranking, student must demonstrate good citizenship, school involvement, and a willingness to broaden academic horizons. Preference may be given for financial need, but is not a restriction.

This scholarship was established to assist young people graduating in the current year from Rock County high schools who have been active in agricultural programs and projects.

The Ronald J. Jelinek Memorial Fund for Welding Education is to provide educational opportunities to learn or improve welding skills. Application is open to anyone living in Rock County.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist and encourage literary minded students residing in the United States to receive a post high school undergraduate education at a four year college or university. Candidate must have a GPA of 3.5 throughout all four years of high school and provide three letters of recommendation; one each from a teacher, guidance counselor, and employer or community leader. Candidate must also submit a written essay of 200-400 words in length describing their future education, personal life, community service, and career goals.

The Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin-Madison will award a $1000 scholarship to provide tuition assistance for students pursuing a secondary education. The Scholarship Committee of PHCWI will review the application materials submitted by each student to ensure that criteria have been met and present to the Board of Directors their candidate for the scholarship. The scholarship check will be awarded upon verification of completing one semester of the coming school year. The decisions of the Scholarship Committee and PHCI-BOD are final and are not subject to review.

The Johnston Scholarship is given in memory of James Elwyn Johnston and in honor of Mary Stagg Johnston, Honorary President General. Mary Stagg Johnston served the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century as the 37th President General from 2003-2005. This Scholarship will be one of the Society's top Scholarships. A student wishing to obtain a Johnston Scholarship must have a 3.9 GP A or higher and must be a High School Senior at the time of application. 

Application forms are obtained from the National Chairman. A student must submit a resume, transcript of grades in a sealed envelope from the school, a statement of the student's goals and aspirations, and two letters of reference. Letters of reference must be from a Colonial Dame member, business person, teacher, minister or employer. The 2021 deadline is February 15th. This scholarship (4 semesters) providing that the student maintains a 3.75 GPA, must be sent to the National Chairman by February 15th for a spring semester renewal and July 15th for the fall semester renewal.

This Scholarship will be for $500.00 per semester for a possible four semesters. No student may be awarded more than four semesters. Scholarships will be given for a spring semester or a fall semester. None will be granted for summer school. All scholarship donations shall be sent through the Treasurer General and designated Mary and James Johnston Endowed Scholarship Fund and is tax deductible. A donation of
$100.00 makes the donor eligible to purchase the Scholarship Pin which is worn on the insignia ribbon.

After a student has been awarded the first time, he/she must contact the National
Chairman in writing if he/she wishes to receive funding again for the next semester. The same
deadlines apply for the Chairman to receive a renewal request. A transcript verifying that the
applicant is maintaining a minimum of 3. 7 5 GP A must be sent to the Chairman for renewal.
Only one Johnston Scholarship will be awarded each year.

Higher Education Scholarship

The American Farmer – 1776-1900 – has been a huge part in the success of America. We honor each
ancestor for his unlimited contributions in making our country the breadbasket of the world.

The National Society Descendants of American Farmers Higher Education Scholarship is available to men
and women accepted in an academic program in Agriculture or related studies. The student must be
committed to outstanding progress toward a degree and be enrolled as a part-time or full-time status.
This scholarship is for up to $1,500.00.

2023 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

Purpose: The Rock County Genealogical Society (RCGS) has established a scholarship fund to provide educational opportunities for a Rock County High School graduate, who is furthering their education at any Wisconsin two (2) or four (4) year college/university.

AMOUNT: A scholarship of up to $500 is granted for one year.

ELIGIBILITY:
1. Applicant must be a Rock County resident and a high school senior or recent graduate.
2. Applicant must have enrolled, for 2023 fall classes, in any WI two or four year college.
3. Multiple students from the same family may apply concurrently for the scholarship.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Step 1: Complete the formal RCGS application for scholarship (pages 2 & 3).
Your application must also include the following:

• A transcript to document that the applicant is in school, or a certificate of graduation if graduation occurred in December.
• Two letters of recommendation from non-family members who are familiar with the applicant’s achievements.
• A short essay on one of your family’s historical events or individuals. How did your family event or individual impact your life today?
• Complete to the best of your ability, the Family Tree 4-Generation Pedigree chart (See page 3 of 3). Ask your family members for assistance and fill in as much as you can. Use First, Middle and Last or Maiden name(s). (NOTE: this chart will be shared with
• and/or provided to the RCGS Library.)
• List any community service you have provided, during your high school years. [A chart works best.]

Step 2: All paper work must be submitted or postmarked, no later than March 31, 2022,
